Marcus Garvey in Hammersmith

Pan African hero, mystic and general shit-stirrer Marcus became a front-rank contender for the 'most deported man in history'. He ended his days in the Talgarth Road but eventually was re-interred as a national hero in Kingston Jamaica. Hammersmith has other fascinating Afro-Caribbean connections, from the sugar-fuelled slave trade, to Marley playing at the Palais, to Ryder-Haggard banging out King Solomon's Mines as a bet with his brother that he could write a better book than Treasure Island.
