This 1830s building may not be as famous as the Prado or the Louvre, but where it shines is in the breadth of the art on show. This is the British national collection and has pretty much something from every major European art trend from 1250 to 1900. Vermeer, Constable, Canaletto, Giotto, Turner, with Leonardo's Madonna of The Rocks featuring in the Da Vinci Code. Every bit as starry is the building itself – let's check out the staircase hall!
